We started in early February and finally finished about a week ago, but it's done! We painted a Jungle book nursery mural for my upcoming son and first born, Connor. My mother, my wife, and I tag teamed this one and will have that wonderful experience together. I'll take you through the process of making this mural. No, this isn't a side job of mine, so please don't ask me to paint a mural. Unless you have a king's ransom to pay for it. Of course, if you you have a king's ransom...
First is the thumbnail, then the rough sketch, then the final line layout as you see here. In order to project this on the wall, without getting lens distortion from the projector, I had to divide the image into nine images and project them individually onto the wall, matching each section perfectly. I traced the projected image on the wall and this is what I got:
At the same time, I and my mother(who is a masterful background artist) made the color comp:
Then we paint in large sections.
Getting close...
My mother said that painting a kids mural with a dog on her lap(that's my dog, Gigi) almost like heaven. "The only thing that could make this better is if I was eating ice cream too". So Tina(my wife) told me to indulge her.
All the line work is done! Finishing seems like the longest part of any project.
Then cleaning up the edges, and...DONE!
